Race Report for the 4th Annual
Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run

The 2010 Salmon River Run took place on May 8th at 10:00am amid 54 degree weather with periods of light showers and heavy rain.  Despite the inclement weather and threat of thunderstorms, 245 runners showed up to brave the elements, run the course and enjoy the somewhat soggy (though still delicious!) post race BBQ.  Kevin Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah won the race in 31:01 and now holds the official course record.  Carly Stroich-Eisley of Norwich, CT was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 39:26.  Complete results for the race may be found here, courtesy of The Last Mile Race Management Co.

On behalf of the Colchester Land Trust, we'd like to thank all of the runners who showed up with smiling faces and fast feet to give us a great race on a grey day; all of our awesome volunteers who came out to register runners, hand out water, man the finish line, serve up food, entertain the crowd and make the event go smoothly.  Finally, we'd like to thank our sponsors, without whom the event would not be financially feasible.  We hope to see you all next year!

A green event...

In keeping with our conservation mission, the Colchester Land Trust strives to achieve sustainability in all aspects of the Salmon River Run.  The 2010 race will feature local post-race foods, artesian well water from the Salmon River State Park, recycled art glass prizes, organic cotton t-shirts (to those pre-registered by April 30th) as well as composting and recycling of our waste materials.  We'll even recycle your old running shoes!

...supporting the work of the Colchester Land Trust

Earlier this year the Colchester Land Trust  partnered with the Town of Colchester to permanently protect an important 31-acre property located adjacent to the Town-owned Ruby and Elizabeth Cohen Woodlands Preserve, expanding the Preserve to over 148 acres.  The Colchester Land Trust contributed over $42,000 to the Town's acquisition of this signicant parcel through a one year loan and is currently raising funds for its repayment.  Your participation in the Salmon River Run helps to fund this, and other open space preservation activities in Colchester.  Thank you for supporting our efforts!
